Context

The Chemistry and Para-chemistry Federation (FCP) is one of the most active federations in Morocco, significantly contributing to the country’s industrial GDP.

In 2022, chemical sector companies represented 22% of the Moroccan industrial production.

To create genuine synergies within its federation and expand its international outreach, aiming to co-build sustainable partnerships with international companies or groups in the chemical industry, the FCP is organizing the 2nd Edition of the International Chemistry Forum on High-Performance Batteries ecosystem.

During the 1st edition of the International Chemistry Forum held on May 17 and 18, 2023, in Rabat, one of the topics discussed was the establishment of an ecosystem dedicated to high-performance batteries in Morocco. The numerous projects initiated in 2023 and partnerships with renowned international companies in the field of high-performance batteries reflect the recognition of Moroccan expertise and its investment potential in electric vehicles.

Morocco boasts abundant resources in phosphate and cobalt, essential elements in the production of high-performance lithium-ion batteries increasingly used in electric vehicles. The global demand for electric cars is steadily rising, and ongoing projects will position Morocco as a key player in the lithium battery value chain for the automotive industry.

To achieve this objective, it is essential to facilitate the construction of the high-performance battery ecosystem in Morocco by developing local expertise through alliances with international partners: sovereignty in essential raw materials, the growth of renewable energies, the development of green energy storage capacities, and the recycling of materials such as cobalt or lithium.

The establishment of a high-performance battery ecosystem at the national level will require considerable efforts in terms of investment, training, and research and development, ushering in a new era for the Moroccan chemical industry.
